Car sales down

According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, domestic car sales fell by 8.25% to 1,58,257 units in November 2012 compared to 1,72,493 units in the same month of 2011. Total passenger vehicles sales grew by 3.86% in November 2012 over same month last year. Motorcycle sales went up marginally to 8,67,518 units from 8,67,088 units in November 2011. Total two-wheeler sales rose by 1.23% to 11,75,429 units from 11,61,176 in November 2011.

The overall growth in domestic sales during April-November 2012 was 4.80% over the same period last year. However, in November 2012 overall sales grew marginally by 1.79% over November 2011.

The cumulative production data for April-November 2012 shows production growth of only 4.80% over same period last year. The industry produced 1,646,495 vehicles in November 2012 as against 1,816,977 in November 2011, a decline of over 9%.
